Replacing Default Instance

Our default instance of SQL 2000 is corrupted. The msdb database
tables do not have several columns required by the SQL Agent. The
corruption apparently occurred while running the SQL Wizard to convert
our 6.5 version to 2000. TO rectify the problem we successfully
installed a new instance of SQL which gave us a clean set of msdb and
master tables. We then copied our user databases over to the new
instance. My question is this: can we now make that new instance the
default instance? How can we do this? Thanks.You can't rename an instance, backup/restore is the way to go (or some simil
ar thing). Before you do that,
script out the job definitions etc from the msdb database so you can run tho
se scripts in the dest db.

Add on to Tibor, Instead of moving the user databases to new named instance,
why dont you take a backup of MSDB database from the new
named instance and restore it in Default instance.
This is under the assumption only your MSDB has got issues. This case all
your Logins/Backup devices and configuration info in Master
database can be preserved.
Have a look into the below article (Just read the MSDB part only)
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;EN-US;Q224071
If you have problems in detach/attach, try with backup and restore strategy.
Thanks

Replacing default chart control in MS Report Viewer

Hi,
As I understand from MSDN, Dundas chart control is the default chart
rendering module in Report Viewer. Is there any way to replace the
same with custom chart control?
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Mandarreplacing, no
you can add another charting add on in reporting services.
in fact the RS2005 charting control is not the Dundas control, in 2008
Dundas will be used.
but you can use the Dundas chart for RS 2005 which offers more options than
the integrated chart system. or you can use any custom charting control
developed for RS. (check the BOL and the SDK)
this works fine with reporting services.
with the report viewer in local mode I don't know what are the options.

featured and the purchased version has additional features. MS bought the
Dundas chart control plus a few other controls and in RS 2008 you will see
better integration and features.

replace value of ... variable

Hi
I have a variable @.IDENT. I'd like to change my data in XML and i use
replace value of (default value of .../DocumentRecId=0). I tried to do
in that way
UPDATE [Doc]
SET
doc_XML.modify('
replace value of (/DocumentDataSet/Document/DocumentRecId/text())[1]
with sql:variable("@.IDENT")')
FROM [dbo].[Document] AS [Doc]
WHERE doc_IDENT=@.IDENT
but I get errors.
"XQuery [dbo.Document.doc_XML.modify()]: The XQuery syntax
'/function()' is not supported."
Is there any posibilty to modify my data in XML using variables.
Greetings
RoanHello Roan,

R> (/DocumentDataSet/Document/DocumentRecId/text())[1]
R> with sql:variable("@.IDENT")')
R> FROM [dbo].[Document] AS [Doc]
R> WHERE doc_IDENT=@.IDENT
This works for me:
drop table dbo.docs2
go
create table dbo.docs2(pkid tinyint identity(1,1),doc xml)
go
insert into dbo.docs2(doc) values ('<v>Some Value</v>')
go
declare @.v varchar(15)
set @.v= 'something else'
update dbo.docs2
set doc.modify('replace value of (/v/text())[1] with sql:variable("@.v")')
where pkid=1
go
select * from dbo.docs2
go
and so does set doc.modify('replace value of (/v/text())[1] with sql:column(
"pkid")').
With SP1. What version are you running (hint, what does @.@.version show?)
Thanks!
