Replace function not working

Hi,
I posted a request here and am still working on it when I landed on this bug.

select top 10 replace(comma_separated_string,',','giveaverylongp assagehere') from table

The function works fine if the comma separated string is small or if the passage is small. It fails for long passages..

Is this a mssql bug?What's long? Replace works fine for me on 8000. Does it break off at 1024 in the Analyzer, while it's len(..) says otherwise?sql

I'm really frustrated because it appears that Microsoft Data Analyzer's
support/compatibility with "standard" MDX is pathetic
I need to calculate the following but just can't figure out the "~Aspect
... " logic which Data Analyzer uses:
1) I want to create a Year to Date total of Sales. Regardless of the
selected time period (whether it's Jan or Nov), I want this YTD total to
return the total sales for the selected year
2) I want to calculate the total sales in the previous time period I.e.
let me try to explain in detail:
a) if the selected time period is Year, this should return the total
sales of the Previous Year
b) if the selected period is Qtr1 of a year, this should return the
total sales of the previous period I.e. Qtr 4 of the previous year
c) if the selected period is Qtr 2 it should return the total sales for
Qtr 1
d) if the selected period is say Oct of 2004, it should return the total
sales of Sep 2004
Can someone PLEASE help me with these.

I think you should be realistic and accept that Data Analyzer is a
long-dead product, with very few real users. Microsoft has never updated
it from the first release and there seems little chance that it will in
the future. You probably should move to a live front-end tool -- there's
plenty to choose from.

LOL I have put exactly hat in my mind and have also picked the tool
that we are going with but this will be sometime before the purchase
thing starts (you know...approvals, etc. etc.).
However till then I really need help with what is available and will
appreciate yours/someone's help at the moment.

Rendering report

I request a report from a web service to be rendered in html 4.0 format.
In the request i also set this parameter:
<DeviceInfo><HTMLFragment>true</HTMLFragment>
The rendering is ok, but the problem is that the images in the report are
not displaied.
Any ideas?

With SOAP you need to download the images explicitly. The most flexible
approach I could have come up with that works accross XP and Windows 2003 is
explained in chapter 11 of my book. It involves writing an ASP.NET-based
image handler page and setting StreamRoot to it. If you don't feel like
buying my book, you can download the source code from the publisher website.
