Replacement for SQL Query Analyser

Does anybody know if there is one in 2005.
Sure I can run the sp's but can't see how I can step through them.
Thanks

SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) is the replacement.

To debug in SQL 2005 you need Visual Studio.

SSMS has the same 4 pane deal, but it works different. It requires, IIRC,
that you design the query and then paste that into a .sql tab/file and run
it.

repair_rebuild and the transaction log

We have a large-ish database (160GB) which grew to over 300GB last weekend
when the maintenance job failed. Half of it is unused but I can't shrink it
due to index errors and when I run checkdb it also reports index errors. I
would like to run checkdb with repair_rebuild but there is not much room for
the log file to grow now the DB has gotten so big - it will max out around
8-10GB.
My questions are:
Will repair_rebuild need the log file to grow any larger than 8GB on a 160GB
database? If so can I just move the log file to a drive with more room?
I can't copy the DB to another server and test out the repair_rebuild - does
anyone have an idea how long it will take on a 160GB database? Are we talking
several hours or days?
Is DBCC reindex a better option in my case?
Thanks
Part of DBCC CHECK With Repair_rebuild option is rebuilding corrupt
indexes. How about adding a new transaction log to a different drive
instead of moving existing log file?

You can move log file to a big disk with detach and atach syntax and then
run check db. Alternatively, you can turn Recovery Model from "Full" to
"Simple" in DB Options.
Given that, SQL server will not grow log file. It's same as trunc. log on
chkpt in SQL 7.

I don't know how you can possibly say that when you have no idea what
corruptions exist in the database or the size of the indexes that the
repair_rebuild option may cause to be rebuilt.
Can you post the output from DBCC CHECKDB? Also, have you done root-cause
analysis to work out why the corruption happened? (e.g. look through the SQL
errorlog and Windows event logs for hardware errors).

Just change his one statement from:
SELECT @.Command = 'USE ' + RTRIM(@.DBName) + ' SELECT table_name FROM
INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE TABLE_TYPE = ''BASE TABLE'''
to:
SELECT @.Command = 'USE ' + RTRIM(@.DBName)
+ ' SELECT table_name FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE
TABLE_TYPE = ''BASE TABLE'' AND table_name NOT IN (''bigtable1'',
''bigtable2'', ... ''bigtable30'')'
You might get other ideas along the same lines!
Good luck.

Reoprting Server cannot be viewed by the client machines

I have set up a RS on my local machine and it can be viewed by the machine. However this cant be viewed by the client machines ..wonder what could be the settings that need this to work.

Hi,

Can you just explain little more on your probelm. If i am correct, are you getting any ASP.Net page error while trying to view the report from client machine?

If it is so, then try out the following,

In your client Internet Explorer, just delete all cookies and offline contents. after that do the following.

Tools --> Internet Option --> Setting(Temp internet files) --> select Every vist to the page.

Now you should be able to view the reports from your client machine. I dont know the root cause for this porbelm. I have experienced the same and tried for various options of Internet explorer and find it working.

Good Luck,

|||

hmm tried and seems not working..it applies to all client machines thus i assume the problem lies in the setting from the server itself?

are you using the http://machinename/reports/ to access the report manager? if yes, try using http://ip_address/reports/

if this gets you there, then try pinging the machine name from a client and see what it renders to for an ip address.

do thise test, post the results, and we will continue troubleshooting from there.

|||

Have tried both but in vain. Furthermore I found that the IIS hosted in my XP Pro machine could not be accessed from any other client machines. I am installing RS in my local XP Pro machines and i could see my Report Manager. In the first place IIS should show "Under Construction..." if access from client but it's not. How to i troubleshoot IIS?....

I have managed to remove the firewall and IIS problem has cleared. However, now when i access the report server..it prompts me for password. Currently in my settings (report service confguration) my Windows Service Identity uses Local System. How do I disable the prompting of password? Thanks.
