Replacement for SQL Query Analyser

Does anybody know if there is one in 2005.
Sure I can run the sp's but can't see how I can step through them.
Thanks

SSMS has the same 4 pane deal, but it works different. It requires, IIRC,
that you design the query and then paste that into a .sql tab/file and run
it.

Repeating subreport header on each page

Hi All

I'm new to Crystal XI so have a basic question for you guys. I have a report with 3 subreports and sometimes some of the subreports run onto more than one page. I would like to be able to repeat the subreport header on each page when this happens. Any ideas?

Much appreciated
OzHello I have got the same problem but, I am using the version 8.5.0.217

I have a report with 3 subreports each one giving some totally different information from one to the other and only the Header of the main report has common information. I need to print a subreport header in each page this subreports needs

Example
TITLE
A.- details main rep
B.- subreport_1
b.0 Title Subreport_1
b.1 detail Subreport_1
C.- subreport_2
c.0 title subreport_2
c.1 detail Subreport_2
D.- subreport_3
d.0 title Subreport_3
d.1 detail Subreport_3

The page header involves TITLE + A (details main rep)
The report detail involves the different subreports (B+C+D).
I need this b.0 (Title Subreport_1) line at the top of each page (under the main report Page header) the Subreport 1 is displaying.

Do you have any idea about how to solve this? Thank you very much

Repeating data on every page's header

My report has 9 subreports. When main report has 3 records then this report
goes into loop and run these 9 subreports 3 times. But I want the heading
in all the pages and should change the data as record changes.. This report
can be 30 - 40 pages long.
I am giving you an example on my report.
Suppose I want to show the detail of 3 staffs.
A, B and C
In heading, I want to show the name, age and gender of staff which will
change on next record.
In detail, In 1st subreport shows the brothers of the staff and 2nd
subreport shows the sisters of that staff etc.
I want to show the heading in all the page.
ThanksYou would have created a group in the table.. you have to check "Repeat
Group Header" checkbox.
Include Name,age, gender in Group Header in the table.
Edit Group -> General Tab -> Check Repeat Group Header.

Repeate group values in Matrix

Hi,

I am using matrix to make a report. I have company name in the row group and user name in the details field. When I run the report I only see the company name once and each user of that company is displayed in a separate row. Then next company name and its users... I wanted to know if there is a way to display company name next to the user name? I know it can be done by using "table" but I can't use table because in this report there are other fields can only be done in a matrix. So, please let me know if there are any settings in matrix which I can use to display my company name next to each user of that company. Please ask me any thing if the question is not clear. Thanks a lot for the help.

-Rohit

If someone have any idea about this problem please let me know. I would really appreciate that. Thanks.|||

Hi Rohit,

it sounds like you have a row group based on CompanyName, and a nested row group based on UserName. You could do the following steps:

1. Clear out the expression in the matrix header of the company group (which would display the company name) and resize that header to be relatively small
2. Modify the matrix header expression of the user name group to e.g.: =Fields!CompanyName.Value & " - " & Fields!UserName.Value

This should result in the company name being shown for every user name.

-- Robert

|||

Hi Robert,

This sounds like a solution that I had also been looking for but my users want to export to excel and do some things from there. If I merge my two values in that cell won't it create problems for them?

|||Thanks a lot Robert.|||

I figured out how to do it w/o having to concatinate the two into one column. Follow all of the directions that Robert gave us--take expression out of first column and minimize as small as possible. Only put the company name in the second grouping column expression. Then go into view datasets and drag your user id directly after the second column. It will appear in a column by itsself. That way they are still in their own columns and not concatinated-yet you still have the same results.

repeat a statement in a loop

hello,
i need to repeat the update statement for all days in the actual month
example:if i run today (19.09.2005) the job - it must run 19 times for
the value of
GETDATE() to GetDate() -19. How can be done this in a loop.
In the update statement is GetDate() used in the where condition and it must
be replaced with the values
in the first loop with GetDate() -1
in the second loop with GetDate() - 2
...
in the last GetDate()-19
The update statement looks like :
UPDATE [table1]
SET [OrderDate]=(
SELECT DISTINCT Top 1 OrderCreationDate
FROM table2
WHERE (SalesDocNr = table1.OrderNr)
)
WHERE CONVERT(VARChar(10), table1.InsertDate, 104) = (
SELECT TOP 1 CONVERT(VARChar(10), table1.InsertDate, 104) AS d
FROM table1 INNER JOIN
table2 ON table1.OrderNr = table2.SalesDocNr
WHERE (CONVERT(VARChar(10), table1.InsertDate, 104) =
CONVERT(VarChar(10), GETDATE() , 104))
)
thanks
XavierWhile can use a WHILE loop or a cursor to get this done as you want, a
better approach is to use a single UPDATE statement which can update all the
rows.
Based on the sample code you posted, it is hard to work out such a solution,
so please refer to www.aspfaq.com/5006 and post relevant information for
others to reproduce your problem.
Anith|||For a looped approach try this for your basic loop. @.date should be used in
place of GETDATE() in your update query. Replace the PRINT statement with
your UPDATE query. I did a quick conversion of GETDATE() to get the DATE
ONLY. You may want a better method than what I did.
Mike
DECLARE @.day int
DECLARE @.date datetime
SET @.day = DAY(GETDATE())
SET @.date = GETDATE()
SET @.date = CAST(CONVERT(varchar(32), GETDATE(), 101) AS datetime)
WHILE @.day > 0
BEGIN
PRINT @.date
SET @.day = @.day - 1
SET @.date = DATEADD(d, -1, @.date)

results.
I'm certain it's possible to do what you want in a single UPDATE statement
without a loop. However, the UPDATE you have posted may not give reliable
results because you've used TOP without ORDER BY. For that reason it's trick
y
to guess what you intended by it (even though it may not always work as you
wanted).
I expect the solution will look like
:
UPDATE Table1
SET orderdate =
(
..
)
WHERE insertdate >= DATEADD(DAY,-19,CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)
AND insertdate <= CURRENT_TIMESTAMP ;

I don't think that's really possible without SQL Server 2005 (or perhaps a
_really_ messed up query in SQL 2000), in which case it would be something
like this as a base:
WITH DAYS(DayValue, Remaining) AS
(
SELECT
CAST(CONVERT(varchar(32), GETDATE(), 101) AS datetime) AS DayValue,
DAY(GETDATE()) - 1
UNION ALL
SELECT
DATEADD(d, -1, r.DayValue) AS DayValue,
r.Remaining - 1
FROM
DAYS r
WHERE
r.Remaining > 0
)
SELECT * FROM DAYS;
Instead of SELECT * FROM DAYS you'd do an UPDATE and JOIN to DAYS.

Repair an SQL Server 2005 installation.

Hi,

Some part of my system registry seens corrupted, and I can not run the report services configuration tool, it gave me the following error:

0x80010002: RCP_E_CALL_CANCELED

1) Does a repair of the installation will register back the COM Servers?

2) After a repair does the report services encription key will be affected.

My main problem is to perform a backup of the report services encription key on a server that is not very stable.

3) Is there another way to backup the encription key without using the report services configuration tool?

Thanks

JF

Hi, found my answers... and it solve my problem.

Performing a Windows 2003 Server repair (not repair console) has fix my registry problem and was able to connect back with the report services configuration tool.

Also I found the following cmd line to backup the encryption key: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\RSKeyMgmt.exe

Reorganize data and index pages option

We have a 40GB database and we, on a weekly basis, run a maintainance plan
with the option "Reorganize data and index pages" I think it is creating
a 20GB log file. The sql docs say that that option "Cause table indexes in
the database to be dropped and re-created with a new fill factor". I guess
that would explain it.
Is there a less expensive operation that can be performed? Like a DBCC
dbreindex but for all tables? I guess I could write a script to do that.
Any thoughts?

Rendering to Excel - Crash - Server Application Unavailable - Out of RAM

"try adding more memory on the server" - COOL! Worst recomendation ever
seen! How about to redesign RS? Why I don't have such problems in "old
fashion" developing (pre-dotnet)?
For example, I have some data. If I'll export this data as CSV then it
tools 10 MB. But then I'm truing to export same data as Excel - server
dies and tooks 400MB of RAM. My personal "reporter" tooks much less
resources! I this normal? Is this problem with my server?
I think - not. This is problem of R$ and M$.
How I can use RS for ENTERPRISE reporting if it cannot work with large
amounts of data? Only with tiny data (1000 records or less).
Also RS has huge memory management issues. How about to give away unused
memory back to system? Where is magical GC?|||I actually have some suggestions for you to try, but after your rant I have
decided not to share them with you.

I have encountered the same issues with Reporting Services when over 90,000
records are being returned to a report. I am using a dedicated server with
2gb of RAM. We are currently getting an extra 2gb to assist in the load, but
