Repair or Reinstall

Hi Peoples
Is their any way to preferably repair a sql server 2005 - specifically the
database services option. If not what is the best way for me to reinstall and
retain all the config?

Doesn't it depend on the nature of the problem you are trying to solve?

|||Their is just a problem with it and our backup software, which we have
reinstalled. Im not to bothered about uninstalling and reinstalling sql. Was
just trying to see if their was a quick way ie a repair/reinstall option
rather than having to do it as 2 seperate stages.

you share it with us? Or do you mind if you tell us about the problem?

Basically we still had elements of sql2000 installed. so we uninstalled. and
as they had not all gone someone manually deleted all the remaining files
left in program files.
SQL2005 its self works fine, but our backup system seems to not be able to
backup databases while they are in use, but it is set to use VSS to snapshot
the databases while online for the backups. This stopped working a few weeks
ago . Either it is a update to our backup system. Which is unlikely as i have
jsut reinstalled that, and the problem still exists. So i think its somehting
to do with SQL server. but as the error just appears in the backup logs and
not on sql its a small pain to pinpoint

that backup software does not have "SQL Server Agent" module integrated with
it.
Third party backup softwares (Such as HP DataProtector) has their agents for
softwares like SQL Server, Exchange Server etc. You'll need "SQL Server
Agent" module for your backup software.
Also, if you are trying to backup database files (such as mdf, ndf, ldf
etc.) they can not be copied while they are in use (attached to) by a SQL
Server instance.
So, I think your problem is not about SQL Server itself; this problem must
be about lacking of SQL Server Agent for your backup software \ system
whatever it is.
